Most likely because that is a very popular pistol, so folks can get what they want as long as it's reasonable. But do not be put off by that, Do you want strictly a NIB pistol or will a used one be ok? Check out the Auction sites, you can find what you are looking for with a little time and patience. It's a sign of just how bad the economy is when you find used pistols going for close to new pistol prices.

Also if where you live allows them, then hit every gun show you can find and get to easily, and with a bit of luck you will find what you want for a price you can live with, new or used. Just remember to dicker, haggle, negotiate it's expected and all they can say is no.

I just bought one online and it was $533.  That's the best online price I could find.  I couldn't find one at the several LGS that I went to.  I'm happy that my FFL only charges $20 for a transfer.

Yeah, I got it from CZ Custom.  I also bought the trigger kit.  I might as well have them do it now, otherwise I would have to pay for shipping if I decided to have it done later.  Probably saved me $100.  Shipping both ways.

A decent tactic for the harder to find guns is to figure out who carries the brand, and check their stock regularly for a few weeks.
CheaperThanDirt.com added the black P-01 to their stock last week with a price of $505.29...  a few days later I was told by a dealer that the cheapest he could find was $647.  Quite a range.
Cheaper than dirt links, for anyone interest (sales tax collected for TX, shipping ~$10-20)

Are these hard to find? They are sure nice looking, and I think would be far more comfy for all-day carry than the SP-01...

Bud's has been listing some on gunbroker.com the last few weeks that range from $507 to $519 (brand new, two mags). I've seen nothing cheaper myself.

There is a guy on armslist selling a used one for $450:

There's one left of the restricted state 10rd P-01 right now at grabagun.com for $539.12 and $5.99 shipping. Grab the CZ before it disappears. They're located in Texas. Great company this is where I bought my two P-01's for about the same price and a P220. I like this place since they have 2 types of lay aways, so if your in a pinch because of xmas but want to secure this hard to find pistol then you just call them to start it with 20% down plus $10 lay away fee and 90 days to pay it off. The only problem for me is that it makes it too easy to buy more guns.

I just put a used P-01 on hold at an LGS.  It has some bad bronzing which I assume is from the previous owner only knowing how to clean with a brass brush.  However, with the exception of the extractor, thats all on the underside of the slide and out of sight.  It also has the very nice CZ thin aluminium grip panels on it in black.  I was happy to get it for $490 out the door.

That said, of course, yesterday Impact guns got a shipment of about 17 of them in, and today Davidson's had a few pop into stock.

That's fine.  I'll pick up a NIB one this month or next locally and I'll carry the used one.
