Any airdales out there?
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:47:29 PM »
I served US Navy, 30 ys from 1974 to 2004. Was an Air traffic Controller and served at NAS Brunswick, Me, NAS Adak, Ak (world's best hunting), NAS Key West, Fl, USS Nassau LHA-4, NAS Pt Mugu, CA, USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71, NAS Dallas, TX. Carswell AFB, TX, NAS Whidby Is, Wa, NAS Patuxent River, MD, and Hanscom AFB. MA.  Was Enlisted for 15 yrs and was an Officer for 15 ys.  Served off Beruit in 84-85 and in Persian Gulf During Desert Storm.  While I did serve at two AFB's, I will say there is nothing better than Naval Aviation! :-)  Go Navy!

Well,  I did get to ride the back seat off a carrier, which and when I can't say, but that 3 story drop feeling when we hit the end on the launch made the g-forces at intial launch amusing, up to that point I had seen any mumber of launches (mostly on TV and the movies) and knew they droped that way back in the day, but actually experencing it, I never ever want to do that again. Didn't help in the least that I never meet a plane I wasn't willing to jump from.

Oh and Beriut was a great place up untill the bombing, Then it just got ugly, you picked a bad year to hang out there Sir, with all do respect. But at least it wasn't 83 to 84, much worse years.

haha, get the old cat shot, done a few myself.  The new magnet system will be much better than the steam.  Nothing worse though is taking off in an overloaded Huey and after you clear the flight deck, drop right down like a rock almost hitting the water before the pilot pulls it out.  Seems the 7 passenger rule only works when one of the passengers isn't 350lbs.

Nine times I had to hold onto the 'sissy bar' with my arms out straight and my head between my elbows when the Avenger was catapulted into the night over Iwo or Okinawa. (That's why I can walk on my knuckles (lol)). I was a specialist in Radar CounterMeasures, one of two aboard the Enterprise (CV(N)-6) in '45. We were ship's company and assigned as needed to ride and operate the very secret equipment. I got transferred to VT(N)90 on the way to Pearl Harbor after the ship got messed up by a kamakazi and had to retire..
