CZ 550 FS 30-06
« on: July 26, 2020, 04:51:17 PM »
In the process of scoring one of these rifles.  Torn between leaving it Iron Sighted and a 250 ish max gun or putting a 3-9 x 40 leupold to stretch the legs a bit.  Those of you that have one let me know the pros and cons and if you use irons or scopes.  Also any particular bullet or ammo that works well in yours.  I know all guns are different and MMMV but does not hurt to have a starting point

Arrived to day, looks good well taken care of.  Can't wait to take it to the range and see how it groups.  Good news is eyes can see the sights just fine.

Would love to have one of those FS models, preferably in 6.5x55, but the '06 would be great. although I really have no need for either.   I don't know what kind of factory sights that model has, but I do have a 550 Safari American in .375H&H and the express sights on it are perfect for my 75 year old eyes.

I kept the iron sights on my 557 ( I did consider a peep sight). But it is definitely a personal preference and, also, includes the expected use. In my case I wanted the rifle to use for a specific competition that shot out to 300 yd. targets. If it is a hunting rifle, I would probably use a scope.  As a plinker, The decision is a purely what you find most fun.

If you do swap or remove the original sights, hold on to them as it helps retain the rifle's value during resale.

I put my Leupold scope in a set of QD rings, which gives the the option of using my express sights rather quickly if desired or needed.   I do like to occasionally shoot irons, so think this is a good idea.   If I had one of the FS model rifles any scope would definetly be in qd rings and my iron sights would remain in place.

My only full stock is a nice little Ruger 77/22 international. IMHO a smaller scope with no flaring objective bell looks best on this type rifle, just my opiniion.
