CZ 527 Carbine 7.62x39
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:23:51 AM »
I own two CZ's now.  I have a standard CZ 75 SP-01 9mm handgun and a CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39.  I love my CZ's.  I really like shooting this rifle.  My question is this: Does anyone know of some sort of shooting competition out there that would make a good fit for this rifle?

Welcome Spynumber,  Sorry I can't help you. I'm just a powder burner at best.
Also, I neither have the ability, or the funds to be a competitive shooter.

I am going to use my AKM 47 7.62 x 39 in some 3 gun matches this year and know some guys who do.  The only thing is if they are using steel targets at the match, you have to make sure you use lead bullets and not bi-metal ones.

I think you could shoot that in an F-class match.  It's a .308 isn't it?

No it's not a .308, the 7.62x39 is also known as the SKS round.  This cartridge has nearly the same ballistics as a .30-30.

OK, I guess the .308 is more like 7.62 x 51.  Anyway, some people shoot .223 in F-class, so I would think it is a possibility.

Try google. I shoot 3 gun, military rife, pistol, and shotgun matches. They're freakin' fun! I've never gone to a match and not had fun, even if I sucked. There are always veteran shooters there who will give you insight, and the benefit of their experience. Every one I've gone to, I've never lacked someone to chat about gear and guns with. Its worth the fees to get into it. Its usually only about $20 for competitions, and you might spend about the same on ammo just for pistol, but you'll end up shooting about $30-$50 of ammo in a day of 3 gun.

Since the range I belong to seems to host most every kind of shooting competitions I need to get out and watch some of the different contests. I know we do the 3 gun match all the time, and there is also IPSC and high power so in between doing balestics test with my weapons and keeping them posted on here I will look into the different sports and maybe talk about each of them.
BTW spynumber there is a list of shooting Organizations on this Forum with the URL's for them so you can check on all of them from here and not have to hunt them all up yourself. not to mention you will have a Base from which to search.

When I look at some of these shooting sports there seems to be a lot of what is called "Small Bore" rifle sports.  I take it that is just .22 LR right?

That's what I have allways presumed also. And I am not saying that list is the end all be all of shooting organizations nationally or internationally, Those are just the ones I could find, got links to from other Organisations or just stood out on their own when I Googled Shooting Org. I hope you find something that is in your area that you like. You have a great weapon there and I am looking forward to seeing/hearing how you like competing with it.

Small Caliber shooting is usually anything under .30 cal. Thats anything between .22lr and .270. At least thats what I was always told.

Your gun is a fullbore rifle and can shoot F-class if you use a bullet weight of 162 grains or better,  think.   http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules/fullbore_07.pdf
