Title: No Print/No Tent 15 Round RAMI Holster
Post by: PappaWheelie on October 14, 2017, 07:52:34 PM
I'm so happy with the latest embodiment of my carry holster that I thought I'd share it for those who'd like to duplicate it.

It's a FoxX, modified for 12:00 IWB tucked shirt concealed carry by significantly raised and shortened CrossBreed belt clips such that all leg interference is eliminated, even when in full squat, or when riding shoulder-to-knee tuck on my recently resurrected (TYJ!) SR500 street bike.

Because it rides so low, and flat to the tummy, there's virtually nothing to "print" or "tent" after pulling the slightest blouse/puff above the belt, so no one ever knows unless I tell them, that I'm out "exercising" (my 2nd Amendment rights).  The dual clips maintain proper elevation, even when running, and I can sit comfortably indefinitely, often forgetting that I'm carrying!

I started with a CrossBreed SuperTuck  (Right click, choose Open in new tab) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9Nrjk17trvjbDRhN2VNSGh6SW8 (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9Nrjk17trvjbDRhN2VNSGh6SW8) and then later saw that FoxX offered a similar, but having taller Kydex, configuration, desirable for not having the upper edge of the Kydex hang up on the waistband of one's pants when extracting the holster. https://smile.amazon.com/FoxX-Holsters-Waistband-Tuckable-Concealed/dp/B01M6ZXAC4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500774736&sr=8-3&keywords=cz+rami+bd (https://smile.amazon.com/FoxX-Holsters-Waistband-Tuckable-Concealed/dp/B01M6ZXAC4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500774736&sr=8-3&keywords=cz+rami+bd)

Here's a PowerPoint file with construction dimensions so that anyone can replicate it. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9Nrjk17trvjWm5KSFVrQWVNXzQ (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9Nrjk17trvjWm5KSFVrQWVNXzQ)

The CrossBreed clips https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/shop/holsters/accessories/snaplok-black-sold-in-singles.html (https://www.crossbreedholsters.com/shop/holsters/accessories/snaplok-black-sold-in-singles.html) have upper holes in appropriate location (choose the 2-hole option): there was no hope of using the FoxX clips because of their configuration in the region where the holes need to be.

I expect that after the belly-pressure cupping (that I experienced with the CrossBreed) similarly affects the FoxX, the hammer area relief represented by the dashed line will be valuable for assuring ready access to the decocked hammer by one's thumb for rapid draw.  The FoxX's Kydex needs to be heated and repressed to eliminate the useless trench over the slide stop pin, to thus eliminate needless extra thickness under one's belt, and to gain the positive, click-into-place location that characterized the CrossBreed prototype. I used a washrag, folded into thirds twice for 9-layer cushiness and insulation to press the heated Kydex against the after-heating-installed RAMI BD.

The CZ RAMI's unique combination of 3" (subcompact) barrel and 15 round (!!!) "extended magazine" capacity with legendary CZ ergonomics, reliability and accuracy (not to mention TruDot Tritium night sights!), and this "invisible" low front carry position make this a truly optimized concealed carry solution, imho. The ubiquitous printing/tenting characterizing today's so-called "concealed" carry practice is frankly sad, and, fortunately, no longer necessary!

The anticipated cupping occurred, so the expected trim cut (to unmask decocked hammer for reliable extraction access) was employed. The PappaWheelie Invisible 15 Round RAMI 12:00 IWB Custom FoxX-based holster is herein completed (and fabulous). Btw, I have a "carry-specific" mag with slightly rounded corner on the bottom plastic plate to minimize the print/tent visibility when wearing a too-tight T-shirt.

Continuing to wear (& be grateful for) the FoxX-based PappaWheelie Invisible 15 Round RAMI 12:00 IWB custom holster. Very comfortable at all times, and no one ever detects!

Here's a snapshot of after 5 1/2 hours of opportunity for L.L.Bean no-iron dress shirt to take a set, including five separate car trips:
1.) Home to Church for Worship Team practice
2.) Church to Home to pick up Wifey
3.) Home to Church with Wifey to do Sound Board Tech service
4.) Church to Aldi's for more of their awesome $9.49/lb. (!) Ribeye steaks and $4.99 (!) Chianti

Studying the above pic, and realizing I've been putting up with a spacing "fight," where the CrossBreed SuperTuck-based clip spacing is a tad narrow for going comfortably outside the two front belt loops on most of my 36" waist trousers at 12:00 IWB, I'm taking the decision to create a wider clip spacing version of the PappaWheelie FoxX-based Invisible 15 Round RAMI Holster.

Stay tuned for updated pics, but if you're currently in process of making your own, at least be advised to consider stretching the 7 3/8" dimension a bit if you want to straddle the typical belt loop spacings of this size range trousers.

The CZ 2075 RAMI BD is:

Reliable ( reference last paragraph of PRODUCT DESCRIPTION of sibling P-01: http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-p-01-9mm-black-alloy-14-rd-mags/ (http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-p-01-9mm-black-alloy-14-rd-mags/) ); and,

-not to mention TruDot Tritium Night Sights and 15 Rounds capacity in an ultimately concealable Subcompact!  The BD also provides, besides freedom from the under-duress risk of a "forgotten" safety, an elevated yet secure strong thumb resting area between the Decocker and the Slide Release levers, as provided by the (uniquely CZ) internal rails, and "real gun" Single Action.  (  :o] )

Stretching out the clip hole spacing to 8.0" was determined feasible with my current FoxX-based holster as an interim improvement, and once done, has proven to be the perfect clip spacing for my favorite (non-stonewashed Schmidt, from Tractor Supply) jeans.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vNlSJRtgygoJqExMcyqjmndoCHRL61MM (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vNlSJRtgygoJqExMcyqjmndoCHRL61MM)

The issue that mitigates against simply making the clip punch hole on the trigger side the place where hole relocation (to increase clip spacing) is focused, is the need to keep the "V" shape (formed by the thigh clearance cuts) "centered" between clips, because the belt loops of trousers are "centered" or symmetrical. Simply relocating the trigger side hole outwardly on the leather (as there is room to do) would result in asymmetry of the thigh-clearing "V" shape when worn, i.e. the tip of the barrel being shifted leftward and the critical-to-utility clearance to the left thigh reduced.

I'm waiting to hear back from FoxX regarding my proposal to provide a few samples with Kydex shifted ~1/4" towards the trigger side, which would optimize the symmetry of leather about the nose of the barrel.

I've offered to make them a prototype for their evaluation, mentioning ~3300 Forum views* but the relative scarcity of the highly-sought RAMI BD.

February 22, 2018 Update: 8" Clip Spacing Version is now posted.
http://www.czforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5480.0 (http://www.czforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5480.0)

March 5, 2018 Update 2.0: I've just gone ahead and repunched the (4mm) clip holes higher and wider, (~1/4" NE and ~1/4" NW of the 8" spaced holes) to result in just over 8 1/4" spacing (for even mo' beddah belt loop clearance) and somewhat-increased submersion.  I like it even more and it's still a perfectly easy draw from its can't-be-snatched location.  At 6' 2 1/2" tall, I've still got plenty of space below the tip of the barrel, but smaller proportioned folk might want to stick with the posted layout. This change doesn't expose any of the original holes from under the flange nuts so I'll probably not bother with yet another fresh start.  The flange nuts remain fully inboard of the leather's contour.

May 21 2018 Update: Recontoured PappaWheelie Invisible 15 Round RAMI Holster

Here’s a new PowerPoint file with 1:1 scale backside image that can be cut out like a paper doll and used as a pattern for either a fresh start or the rework of an already-existing FoxX-based custom 12:00 IWB holster.  The lower “V” profile has been sculpted with large radii to increase thigh clearance, and is thus a bit even more comfortable in full squat mode.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Eq0__V9YnxW4ekdgwX6uZFBb1P--FHlb (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Eq0__V9YnxW4ekdgwX6uZFBb1P--FHlb)

Comparing back-to-back profiles, with clip tops aligned, the new scalloped contour gets back to the original thigh clearances of the first two iterations, https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Nrjk17trvjWm5KSFVrQWVNXzQ/view (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Nrjk17trvjWm5KSFVrQWVNXzQ/view)
which had greater barrel exposure below the contour of the leather backplate.

The screw-to-screw centerline dimension is 8-1/4” for purposes of verifying the scale of your printout.

I let blobs of Superglue harden overnight to seal & “Loctite” the threads from loosening.

Here’s an updated front view: if you look closely you can see that the DPM spring pack protrudes from the front of the frame.

I’m grateful to be able to carry, via THE most ergo/comfy pistol of THE world’s best brand, with complete tucked shirt invisibility, 15 rounds of Underwood 9mm +P+ Xtreme Defender ammo without risk of frame damage!
