My 1st competition
« on: April 12, 2014, 11:24:11 PM »
I went to my local gun club and shot my 1st steel competition. Due to being nervous and excited I forgot to get pics and videos until almost the end.

You are right the photographer was awesome.... . I had a great time and hope I can come back and do it again. I need to get a holster now and figure out how to convince the wife to let me buy the ammo...it is very addictive.....

HEY! How was it? How did you do? Frankly if I decide to try it personally I think I would be nervous enough to miss more than I hit. One of the reasons I'm chicken to try it. Even though I belong to IDPA and IPSC/Steel. There is something inherently different about being in a gun fight, and competing with people watching and sizing you up as a competitor.

Ya I was scared during the gun fight but then all you can do is react, try to out fox the other shooter into dying for his country, but there is no one watching and sipping on a tasty beverage while you go around trying to kill pretend bad guys.

Don't look at me that way....... I can't help being self-consciousness when people are watching. Always have been. :embarrassed:

BTW frgood: PM CH and myself and let us know what part of Central Fl. We shoot at either East Orange, or Tennroc

It was great....I had a blast...both literally and figuratively.. . I'm not sure yet as the scores haven't been posted, I know I was at the bottom of a couple of the stages (in my squad) and about the middle in the rest....I don't think I did too bad for my first time out.....I was a little nervous, but the being watched didn't really effect me as much as I would have thought....I can't wait to go again....but I need to get a holster, mag pouches and convince the wife to let me get the ammo... .

The people in my squad were awesome and everyone there is very friendly and willing to help.
Have to be careful tho, it is very addictive.......

Most of the targets were more like 3-10yds but it is extremely addictive....

Ah, I didn't have the pics "aired out"  ... distances looked longer in the video.

Good way to test one's balance of speed & accuracy. A lot of one isn't any good if you don't have much of the other!

After expanding out those pics, I can see how happy you look!

My preferred source for target ammo. 9 mil gets down to low $0.30s when purchased in quantity. I've used their reman stuff for a year, all went bang. Don't get their hollow points but the FMJ round nose has been 100% error free for me.

Edit - what they have in stock now is new, not reman, even so, http://www.freedommunitions.com/In-Stock-Now-s/53970.htm gets you down to $0.28 per round in qty of 500. They always have a good flow, so if don't have exactly  what you want, stuff comes online in a couple/few weeks usually. They recently had a free shipping sale, and I stocked up a bit then.

I've checked their site before, but the problem was always a matter of the shipping costs negated any savings......Stock is getting better, sometime I can get 100 rds boxs from Walmart for $25
