TS .40 Overal Length
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:15:59 PM »
What is your measured OAL for your barrel?

I have before me a CZ TS .40. Using the Franklin Arsenal OAL tool I tested my chamber with Xtreme 165 gr. RNFP and came to a size of 1.110" I then tested 180 gr. FP with a result of 1.063.

Now, the Vihtavouri guide suggest a Minimum OAL of 1.126. So I built my tree starting 10% below minimum load.

1. Is OAL reading reasonable or could I be mistaken with the use of the tool?

Given that number, I built a ladder for the 165 and one laddr for the 180.

Turns out the 180 gr. had:
  • The best feel.
  • The tightest 20 ft. group.
  • A 980 fps avg.
  • avg. PF 176
  • std. dev. 9
Is the 1.063 OAL acceptable?
Is there any method to approximate chamber pressure based on gr., velocity, cartrdge size, bullet weight, etc?

I have a new TSO and I was just checking the oal with a once fired case and a 180gr Rnfp Boyuo bullet Pushing the case until the bullet was touching the lands at 1.1570. Minus .015 makes a maximum oal of 1.142, so I'm going try these at 1.130 just to be safe.
In my M&P 40 Pro I am loading 1.160 with 4.0grs of titegroup at 950fps pf 171. I shot these loads through the TSO and worked just fine, but now I'm thinking when the slide was slamming forward it must have been pushing the bullet in.
I'm going to start at 1.130 and try 3.7grs of titegroup.

My post is a bit dated. My best loads are just under 1.170.  My last loads were 1.160 with a nice soft feel @ PF and a consistent grouping.

My barrel will not allow me to load that long, so I think I'm going to start at 1.140 and 3.7 and try them out tomorrow. I was very surprised at how tight the CZ chamber specs are. Especially since the STI's that have seen are very long, with some guys I know loading at 1.200

Has anyone else checked their chamber for AOL on the new CZ TSO's? What are you guys loading for 40? I'm guessing the barrels are different between the TSO and the std TS.
