Factory night sights
« on: April 16, 2013, 07:02:55 PM »
Purchased a nib cz 75B about 30 days ago. On the side of the box on the label with the bar code, it says "night sights". Well, the sights are dull, very dull. They are hard to see during the day and do not glow in the dark. Could it be possible that the sights are just worn out and have lost their ability to glow? The pistol shoots fine just by aligning the posts but I would really like to see how these night sights are supposed to work.

Is there a luminescent paint I could use or should I send the slide back to cz for sight repair/replacement?

The tru glow night sights are tritium.  A radioactive isotope that glows. It never stops glowing. You'd probably die of old age before they stopped glowing. (Unless they were damaged)

Welcome to our forum!! You made a great choice of weapons. I would suggest calling CZ USA first and explaining the situation, they will tell you what to do from there.

Again, welcome to our forum!!

I think the sights that you are talking about are just luminance paint.  They will work for most of the night if they are left in bright sunlight for the day.  You can get real night sights to replace them.  Possibly the gun came with them and someone swapped them before you bought the gun.

I did call CZ and the gunsmith told me that the box was mislabeled as the 75B does not come with night sights. The sights are just "factory sights".

Assuming a cz75b tritium sights from trijicon or meprolight are fairly easy to find.  You do need to pop out the rear sight and see the number on the bottom to see what size you need. The number determines how tall the rear sight is on cz75 (non po7/po9) pistols.   Then you can order them from CZ, Brownells etc assume @$100 with shipping plus installation if you cannot do it yourself.

If you choose to replace your sights:
If they're metal, remove your grips, put it in a vise with wood blocks, and use a brass punch to drift them out..
If they're tritium, same as above, just use a wooden dowel rod, or place something on the end of your punch to keep from marring the finish.

Anyone have a recommendation for a sight paint that is highly visible in the day, and also glows at night? There’s a lotta’ products out there. Some of those that glow well at night appear to be a semi clear / not that easy to see in day light. Thanks.

Nice.

Actually advertises both qualities, thanks.

Have you used ... the marketing = the reality?

Seems like the solution though, thanks again.

Yep, I'll give it a try, nothing to lose. Looks like you're a better googler than I!

Perhaps some day I'll be of value to this forum as well ?

I fired off for a bottle of it and will post up how it works ... level of day contrast, how long the sight's hold their glow at night etc.

If it's good, I can mail it to you afterwards and you can give it whirl and see ... just mail back when done. There's enough there to do a safe or two of gun sights.

You already are!!! That was a great question, I'm sure it will help others. I don't need it (knock wood) the sights on my Rami are combat night sights and the ones on my SA already glow in the dark and are in perfect condition, but I really appreciate the offer.......
