New Connecticut gun law (I live in CT).
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:18:32 PM »
Well it's official.  The bill will be signed into law without going through committee via E-Cert.  The emergency certification bill, or "e-cert," which can be passed on the floor without going through committee first.  The e-cert is generally reserved for use during times of crisis, such as natural disasters or when deadlines are approaching too quickly to delay action.

—Ban sales of high-capacity ammunition magazines;—Background checks for private gun sales;
—New registry for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets   HOW THE HECK DO YOU REGISTER MAGAZINES?

—Immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales;
—Expansion of Connecticut’s assault weapons ban;  100 new guns to be added.

Under the current bill, a) an additional list of more than 100 new specified weapons will be designated as banned assault     weapons, in addition to all of the other weapons captured by the “physical characteristics” test. Also, that characteristics test is being amended to add some new banned military-style features, and also to require an assault weapon to have only one of the listed features in order to fall under the ban.
—Safety training and other requirements to buy any rifle, shotgun or ammunition. BUT I TEACH FIREARM SAFETY CLASSES

—Increases minimum age eligibility for purchase of some semi-automatic rifles to 21;
— Expands requirements for safe storage of firearms;

Thanks.  I really feel like crying. My husband says we'll get through it, but I do wonder.  I went to ALL the rallies.  I emailed my state assembly people EVERY week.  I wrote hand written letters and I called.  I rallied everyone I know to do the same.  But we lost.  We lost all that is right with our system.  I am heart broken.

Tina,
     Thanks for all of the effort that you made fighting this new wave of laws.  I think that it would have been a lot worse without the strong turnout that was demonstrated.

Well if you do not have a hunting license or pistol permit you will need an ammo certificate ($35) to buy ammo in July 2013 in Connecticut.  You will also need another ($35) certificate to buy a gun if you do not have license/permit.  All firearm sales must be conducted by an FFL also.  Any centerfire rifle that comes close to being called an assault rifle can not be purchased.  And on, and on....

          That is the most insane thing I have seen since looking at the Kali OK/not OK weapons lists! I'm going to post the links to you one you just put up and the one for the Kali Approved Gun list on a separate Board and make it a sticky. People really need to know about the laws and I think they should be able to find a link, especially on/in a firearms forum, easily. Personally I hate hunting through the Google (which I don't use, ever) and the MSN board, or any of the others for that matter. You only find a couple of things regarding what you are actually looking for and a load of garbage. Gives a whole new meaning to "Data Mining" cause you really have to dig to find what you want. OK sliding way off topic, My bad.

            Anyway thanks for the link, keep up the good fight, if the forum can help, we'll make a special Board just for updating everyone on the assorted new laws, and where they can help to stop the inmates from taking over the asylum as it were.
If at first you don't succeed, then Skydiving is not your sport.

Welcome Home every Veteran and active Service personnel and Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifice

A few of us were badgering our state reps for clarification on the new laws.  One guy asks if background checks for stuff we already own will be retroactive.  His state rep replied that in order to get a certificate of possession for items we already own, we will need a backround check. My buddy states that he owns several items on the new list. His state rep states that he needs a background check for each item?????????? I ask, do we have to pay for the background checks. His state rep answers yes. I am so confused!
