Greetings from LSD (Lower Slower Delaware)
« on: June 15, 2016, 01:30:33 PM »
Hi, I live and shoot mostly IDPA in Southern Delaware. (my club there usually hosts six IDPA match a month) A few times a month I may also venture out to IDPA or USPSA matches in MD, VA, W. VA or PA.  Aside from shooting, I enjoy flying, which is a good thing since that's my profession...

Anyway, back to CZ.  I ordered a 75 Shadow Custom from CZ Customs in AZ, to replace my trusty M&Ps that I've been successfully learning my competition skills with. Now it's time to move up a level or three!

Prior to a year ago, to me CZs were motocross motorcycles used by 1968 Champion MX rider Joel Robert from Belgium!  Now I understand that they make a hell of a gun!

I'm happy to have found this forum and like a Zombie, I plan to lurk and occasionally pick your brains!

I bought a 360 Maico in a box. It was less than a year old, and I put it back together, for under $400 total. It was a great practice bike that I won a few Open Expert classes with. If I remember Aki Johnson was a pro rider who gave the CZ fits.

Bengt had a short 500cc World Championship, only 1969 & 1970 riding a Husky.
Joel was 250cc World Champion 6 times total (5 in a row!)
Those guys back then were as strong as bears!!!!

I rode 6 years semi-pro and 4 years pro, T-T and Flattracking. Then another 15 in amateur hare scrambles and enduros. I don't ride any more. Just playing with my Manx Style VW Dune Buggy and competitive shooting.

All true again. I suppose it is more the motorcycle than the rider that I like. The riders/racers are very incredible without doubt.
I just really like and like working on that old iron.
Bikes like the HL500, BSA B50MX/Triumph TR5MX and even the Harley Davidson MX250 thrill me.
Though the most exotic I ever owned and was a 1967 Rickman Montessa that one of my best friends now owns and enjoys.

Turns out Ceske Zavody (the Jawa-CZ motorcycle marque) does indeed share DNA with Ceska Zbrojovka way back when: check out the CZUB history page's CZ logos: http://www.czub.cz/en/historie.html/

Btw, before I forget it, my 1959 16" wheeled Jawa 350cc twin has CZ motocrosser close ratio gearbox and clutch -in case someone just has to have it...  The parts fit interchangeably with zero modification.

I worked my way thru college as a motorcycle mechanic at a shop that sold both Maico and Jawa-CZ, so have an appreciation for the conservatively-engineered, long-haul-durable design philosophies that characterized Czech product offerings.  It was the comforting thought when considering the "loss of warranty" prospects of DIY repair of a firing pin sticking problem.  The innate robustness of CZ pistols is the only warranty an owner will ever need!

CZUB is in ancestral Moravia.  Ever hear of the 100 year 24/7 intercessory prayer movement started by the Moravian brethren?  http://www.christianitytoday.com/history/issues/issue-1/prayer-meeting-that-lasted-100-years.html  Something about their DNA?

Just recently got my 1980 SR500 back on the road after 22 years of playing 2nd fiddle to bicycles: had to clean two idle jets and it started on the 3rd kick.  Probably would have on the 1st if I'd remembered the "drill" better.  Shelved my trusty Buco helmet for a new Shoei Qwest when astonished at the level of wind noise I used to live with!

Oh yeah, speaking of flying and long periods of time, my 1980 Moyes Maxi Quick-Break-Down hang glider patiently awaits a new keel tube...  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Nrjk17trvjQnJ2ZUE0dEZXeVk/view
