Valor
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:24:36 PM »
Does anyone here own a Valor or Heritage? I've decided that one of the two will be my next handgun. My son recently bought a Springfield TRP which would closely compare in price and quality so I thougt I would get the DW and we could scrutinize the other's handgun. Maybe even bet a Fuente Opus X on some competition.

Wow, you have good taste in mentioning both Dan Wesson and the Opus X.

I had to quit smoking cigars, and miss them.

After being forced to sell my DW CBOB some years ago..

My plan is on adding some DWs to my small gun collection.

The VALOR is my first pick for a full sized 1911.

They were great when first introduced, and even better now that DW
makes most of the parts for it.

My only other 1911 was a Combat Commander, that I could only carry off-duty back in the
ealry years of my career,

So, I really only like DW, Colt, and Ed Brown for 1911s.

Not a huge amount of DW info on the older CZF forums like YUKU and Info, but
many a fan hangs out here:

However, it seems that by all accounts.. that CZ-USA sells as many DWs as Norwich can put out.

You now get an option of Stainless for the Valor as well, and the Guardian in 9mm or .45 caliber.

Maybe someone should ask DW to make up some .38 Supers, as that cartridge is picking up steam
these days in both velocity and forum interest?

If you want to discuss the CCO or Guardian..I'm open for it.

Best of luck with your DW purchase.

Yep, I'd like to have a stainless Valor. I wouldn't be interested in 38 Super except in maybe a Czechmate. 38 Super has the higher pressures to make a compensator do it's thing and also reach the "Major" power factor at the same time. I'm too old and slow to compete anymore but still enjoy shooting as much as ever. I've been shooting all my life and have owned just about everything except a 1911.  :embarrassed:

I'll add some more here.

Back when I had a Witness 10 and about 2,500 rounds of factory and hot reloaded JHPs.

I begged DW to offer a black 10mm.

Now I see that they are offering a special run of them.

However, there also seems to be a buzz about DW coming out with guns in
.38 Super.

I've shot the Super out of a 1911 and really liked it over the rather mundane .45 ACP.

Double Tap has Super loads, and unlike .357 SIG, I can even find FMJ ammo locally.

Recoil is mild but you get better ballistics than most standard 9mm.

Accuracy is outstanding, at least in the Kimber I shot.

The older I get, i seem to like things small and simple.

A .38 Super CCO or Guardian would have a lot of appeal to guys like me:)

Not that a Valor in .38 Super would be a bad idea either!

I have a feeling that as a public school teacher I will never be able to afford a DW 1911. HOWEVER, I know that the Valor (I believe. I know it was a DW  :cheesy: ) in 10mm is possibly the coolest pistol I have ever held. There's only one gun I want more, and that's the 97B. Perhaps all things in time...

Hi Dan.

I carried a 97B for two years before going to the RAMI.

Pretty big and heavy, but also superbly accurate and reliable.

Probably the finest Cz I've ever owned.

I could talk about the 97s for days.

Be sure to start a thread elsewhere for it and I'll chime in.

As for anyone looking to buy a 97B or BD.

I urge them to do so as the price goes up steeply each year.

Anyhowz, my CBOB,

could keep up with my 97B @ around 10-12 yards, but the big CZ .45 ACP was the winner @20-30 yards out.

Wish I still had them both.. but they were early victims of the economy crash..at least at my house.

These days, it would be a nice CCO for carry..

With a black duty treat Valor for the Range..

I don't like stainless autos that much but would take the stainless Valor over the stainless VBOB.

Let's keep the ball rolling with DW Talk:)

With the advent of the SPECIALIST 1911 for 2012.

I'd have to go with that gun over the VALOR as it offers the tactical rail.

Those type guns seem to be the "IN" thing these days.

They are "In", but if I had a $2k pistol (instant divorce  ) I would never put anything on the rail for fear of scratching the paint lol!
